How to file the Texas Form PR monthly production report
Texas operators report production every month, lease by lease, to the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) on Form PR. Here's how the report is laid out, when it's due, and what changed when the RRC stopped taking paper.

What has to be reported
Form PR covers all crude oil, casinghead gas, gas well gas and condensate produced. An oil lease reports any month it had production or oil in stock. A gas well reports starting with the month it was completed, and a recompleted or reclassified well reports from the recompletion or reclassification date.
A gas well with no production and no liquid in its tanks still gets a record with zero or blank volumes, unless it is carried as shut-in on the RRC's gas proration schedule for that month.
How the report is laid out
Texas reports by lease, not by well. You file a separate report for each RRC district, with fields in alphabetical order and leases listed by their RRC identifier. For each lease you report the lease total:
- Oil and condensate: what was on hand at the start of the month, plus what was produced, minus what was disposed of, has to equal what's on hand at the end.
- Gas: gross formation gas produced has to equal the gas disposed of.
- Disposition codes say where each volume went. For oil: pipeline (0), truck (1), tank car or barge (2), lost or stolen (5) and skim liquid hydrocarbons (8), plus codes for lease use and other cases. For gas: lease or field fuel (1), transmission line (2), processing plant (3), gas lift (5), flared (10) and vented (11), among others.
If production from more than one lease is commingled under a commingling permit, you still report the lease total, and the oil volumes are broken out by commingle permit beneath it.
Step by step
- Close the month's tickets. Get every run ticket and gauge for the month in, by lease. Oil sold by truck or pipeline becomes the disposition volumes.
- Total gas by lease. Use gas sales and meter statements, and account for lease fuel, flared and vented gas with their own codes.
- Balance each lease. Starting stock plus production minus disposition must equal ending stock. A lease that doesn't balance will come back as a discrepancy.
- Set up online access once. Filing through the RRC Online System or by EDI upload needs a Security Administrator Designation (SAD) form on file so your company has a security administrator and user logins.
- File by the last day of the following month. From September 1, 2026, the RRC no longer accepts paper Form PRs.
- Clear discrepancies. The RRC sends monthly letters listing discrepancies. Fix them in the Production Reporting Online System, where a corrected report replaces the earlier one.
Where operators get tripped up
- Reporting by well. Texas wants lease totals. Your own records can stay well by well, but the report rolls them up.
- Stock that doesn't carry over. Ending stock one month must be the starting stock the next month.
- Retyping tickets. Keying the same barrels into a ticket log, a spreadsheet and then the RRC screens triples the chances of a mismatch.
Form PR built from the tickets you already enter
WellCollar loads your Texas leases from your operator number, builds the monthly production report lease by lease from the run tickets, gauges and gas sales your crew enters, and exports the electronic file for upload. The PR due date sits on your filing calendar every month.
